The Daily Beast: "The 8 Best Pilot Scripts of 2011"

The network upfronts—when the broadcasters unveil their fall schedules, tout their new programming, and bring out stars to shake hands with advertisers—are the week of May 16, but it’s never too soon to take a look at which shows you might become addicted to next season.

Over at The Daily Beast, you can read my latest feature, entitled "The 8 Best Pilot Scripts of 2011," in which I pick my favorite scripts--from the period dramas Playboy and Pan Am to the Sarah Michelle Gellar-starring noir thriller Ringer and Kyle Killen's mind-bending drama REM.

I'm most looking forward to CBS' "Ringer". It has an intriguing premise (a character-driven, serialized thriller that brings a breeze of fresh air to the habitual boring procedural dramas) and a stellar cast feauturing the talented Sarah Michelle Gellar. "Ringer" could become the next "The Good Wife" (a medium hit and a critical darling). Although, I've given up on "The Good Wife" halfway-through season 2; too procedural and not enough character-driven (Margulie's Alicia is just plain boring).

Clearly, Touch and Alcatraz show great promise. But I'm still waiting for someone to pick up Lone Star, best new show canceled before anyone knew what it was.

Jace, what about "Hell on Wheels" from AMC?

They just released a teaser, it looks sick.

Any thoughts?

This list only covered broadcast network pilot scripts because it is pegged to the upfront announcements this month, and did not include cable pilot scripts such as VEEP, Spring/Fall, Aaron Sorkin's HBO pilot, Homeland, and many other worthy scripts.
