Channel Surfing: NBC Looks for Gold with "Jason" But "My Own Worst Enemy" Launch Less than Golden, "Battlestar Galactica," More "Eli Stone," and More

Welcome to your Wednesday morning television briefing. Wondering where the frak BSG is? Battlestar Galactica will return with the back half of Season Four, the series' final installment, on January 16th at 10 pm. ( Entertainment Weekly 's Ausiello Files ) NBC has given a put pilot commitment to Jason and the Argonauts , a green-screen drama based on the Greek myth about the quest for the golden fleece from writer/executive producers Josh and Jonas Pate ( Surface ) and Media Rights Capital. (NBC previously aired a mini based on the myth in 2000.) I'm not quite sure that they should have done so until after they see the numbers from the premiere of Crusoe later this week but there you go. The Peacock landed the project after a fierce bidding war, apparently with FOX. (In other news, MRC received an order for seven additional scripts for its animated ABC comedy The Goode Family and three additional scripts for Lifetime comedy Rita Rocks .) ( Variety ) In other NBC news, M

Sneak Peek: Season Finale of "Project Runway"

As we continue to count down to the season finale of Project Runway tomorrow night, with three women showcasing their work at New York Fashion Week, nerves are already frayed and the tension is mounting. But rather than wait until tomorrow night to catch the finale, why not take a sneak peek at the opening minutes of the episode with Leanne, Korto, and Kenley preparing for the biggest challenge of their lives... and selecting their models for their fashion shows? And if that weren't enough Runway goodness for you, here's a look at the designers fitting their models, cattily describing one another's collection ("Holly Hobbie," anyone?), and getting ready for the the big show: Project Runway 's fifth season finale airs tomorrow night at 9 pm ET/PT on Bravo.

Talk Back: NBC's "My Own Worst Enemy"

By now you've read my advance review of NBC's new Christian Slater spy drama My Own Worst Enemy and had the opportunity to watch it yourself. I'm curious to see what you thought about the series premiere of My Own Worst Enemy ("Breakdown"), which introduced the audience to Slater's Henry Spivey/Edward Albright; one is the consummate career-driven family man, the other is a deadly intelligence operative with a penchant for fast cars and faster women. Were you as bothered by the episode's incongruities and sloppy plotting as I was? Did you think that Slater himself was pretty darn underwhelming? And did you care at all about Henry's family or Fainburg's Marbles? Do you care why Henry and Edward seem to be emerging at inopportune times? And, most importantly, will you be tuning in again next week? Talk back here. Missed the series premiere of My Own Worst Enemy ? No worries. You can watch it after the jump...

Fall in Love All Over Again: "Gavin & Stacey" Kicks Off Season Two

BBC America's sweet and caustic comedy Gavin & Stacey returns tonight to launch its second season and I couldn't be happier. Longtime readers know of my love for this twinkling little comedic gem which manages to be both mordantly funny and genuinely touching. (It's the very definition of bittersweet.) Gavin & Stacey , created by series co-stars Ruth Jones and James Corden, follows the lives of Essex boy Gavin (Mathew Horne) and Welsh lass Stacey (Joanna Page) as they meet cute after talking on the phone for months and end up falling head over heels in love, despite dealing with their extremely eccentric family relations and friends. Season One ended with Gavin and Stacey tying the knot after some serious complications (most notably the fact that Stacey had never told Gavin that she had been engaged about six times before) and the newlyweds headed off to Greece for their honeymoon. Season Two, which kicks off tonight on BBC America, picks up where we left off, with

Channel Surfing: Starz Orders New Rob Thomas Series, Doherty Returns to "90210," More "Gossip Girl,"

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. I hope you all tuned in to watch the third episode of Chuck last night as well as a pretty soggy installment of Gossip Girl in which the laws of college applications, logic, and, well, sense of any kind sort of went out the window. But at least the kids looked fabulous, right? Rob Thomas is proving himself to be quite prolific, in the post- Veronica Mars universe. Pay cabler Starz has ordered ten episodes of half-hour comedy series Party Down , written by the Veronica Mars creator, who is set to executive produce with John Enbom, Paul Rudd, and Dan Etheridge. (Enbom will act as the series' showrunner.) Series follows the lives of six Hollywood wannabes as they attempt to pursue their dreams while trying to get by day by day with their shared catering company. Party Down will likely launch in March 2009. ( Variety ) Brenda will be returning to 90210 . Yep, Shannen Doherty has agreed to appear in two additional episodes of the

Double Jeopardy: Spying on "My Own Worst Enemy"

When I read Jason Smilovic's original script for My Own Worst Enemy , the NBC action spy series starring Christian Slater which launches tonight, I thought that it showed enormous promise and potential. Sure, I was confused why NBC would schedule two series that both dealt with takes on the spy genre on the same night ( Chuck , of course, airs two hours earlier) but I figured that, since they had managed to snag Christian Slater as the lead on a network television series, they had to be doing something right. And then I saw the premiere episode of My Own Worst Enemy ("Breakdown") a few weeks back and I began to question everything that I had originally thought about the series, especially as the Peacock had secured the showrunning services of John Eisendrath, an Alias veteran who replaced series creator Jason Smilovic at the helm, and done some major recasts and reshooting. My Own Worst Enemy isn't bad, per se, but it could have been a hell of a lot better and the r

Nomads: Don Heads to the Desert on "Mad Men"

Just a few quick thoughts about last night's episode of Mad Men ("The Jet Set"), written by series creator Matthew Weiner. How creepy was Joy's family? At first I thought that they were part of some weird sex cult that somehow lured Don to Palm Springs and then drugged him... only to learn that they were far creepier than I thought when we learned that Viscount Willie was actually Joy's father and he came in and sat on the bed with Don and Joy the morning after their tryst. Ick. I loved that an abandoned Pete tried to pick up some young girls at the hotel pool, only to have them ignore him altogether. Classic. And how adorable was the scene where Kurt cut Peggy's hair for her in her kitchen before their Bob Dylan concert? Peggy might pick the wrong boys but she was smart to allow Kurt to make her over, into more of a modern woman. Only fitting that the only person to seemingly notice her new look is Pete, who can't quite place his finger on why Peggy look
