NBC Shifts "30 Rock" Closer to Scranton

It was just the other day ( Friday, if we're being precise ) that I said how much I wished NBC would come to their senses and move freshman comedy 30 Rock (a Televisionary fave), using The Office as a lead-in, rather than the much loved if somewhat underperforming Scrubs . Looks like someone at the Peacock was listening. NBC announced that it would do just that, shifting 30 Rock a half an hour earlier, to 9 pm, beginning April 5th. Wait, what's that you say? You thought the cruelly imposed hiatus of 30 Rock (intended to deny us our fix of such random oddities as Ray Ray's Mystery Garage ) was supposed to last much longer than that? Fortunately, NBC has surprised us again and will be returning 30 Rock to the schedule a little earlier than can be expected. (My prayers to Jack Donaghy were apparently answered.) April 5th will feature a 35-minute "super-sized" episode of 30 Rock (along with The Office and Scrubs ). NBC's lineup for April 5th will be the foll

Stung By A Spelling Bee: An "Amazing Race" Elimination Shocker

Oh. My. God. I am in shock. Serious, serious shock. And I never thought I'd be capable of uttering the words, but I'm sort of heartbroken about Rob and Amber getting eliminated. Yes, sometimes even I can surprise myself. It seems that the team I was previous rooting to lose (for the last several years, it seems) finally won me over... just in time for them to get booted from The Amazing Race in a shocking twist, all because Rob couldn't spell Philippines. That's right. It didn't come down to a foot race or airline tickets or unclear directions. What it came down to in the end was that one single mistake during the Detour in which Rob correctly realized that Magellan's travels began in Seville (come on people, common sense says it couldn't have been Guam) but couldn't manage to suss out that he had incorrectly spelled the Philippines. (He even hoped that the reason the judge wouldn't give them the clue wasn't because of a spelling error. Hint: it

Casting Couch: Dushku Scrubs in for "Nurses" While Cox "Stumps" After "Las Vegas"

Say it ain't so. Has Faith gone all good girl on us? Buffy the Vampire Slayer 's Eliza Dushku has signed on as Eve, the lead in medical dramedy Nurses (also known as Philadelphia General ). Dushku replaces previously cast actress Katheryn Winnick, who has unexpectedly dropped out of the FOX pilot. Meanwhile, Nikki Cox has signed onto a CBS pilot, just mere days after it was officially announced that she would not be returning for the fifth season of NBC's drama Las Vegas . Instead, Cox will star in The Stumps of Hollywood (formerly known as Fugly ), the comedy from Greg Garcia ( My Name is Earl ) that was originally developed several seasons ago. Cox joins the previously cast Marissa Jaret Winokur in, what I assume, is the role of the central character, a woman who undergoes an extreme makeover and transforms herself (using her and her siblings' inheritance money) and then embarks on a move to Hollywood in search of fame and fortune.

"We've Seen it Ten Times or More": ABC Pushes "Life on Mars" to Midseason

Expect Sam Tyler to travel back in time a little later than originally expected. In an unsurprising move (I've been waiting for weeks for this announcement), ABC has opted to push the US adaptation of drama Life on Mars to midseason, allowing executive producer David E. Kelley more time to, you know, cast the lead actor. (They had only managed so far to cast Rachelle Lefevre as Annie.) "After a thorough search, we still haven't been able to find the right actor for this role," Kelley was quoted as saying. " Life on Mars is a project whose success relies heavily on the strength of its lead actors, and rather than compromise we prefer to keep looking and shoot for midseason." Having read the script earlier this weekend (coincidental, no?), I can't say that I am all that excited by a US adaptation of Life on Mars , a brilliant series about a contemporary police detective on the trail of a serial killer who finds himself, after a car accident involving the

Why "30 Rock" Is Still on My Mind Grapes

It's going to be a rough five weeks... I'm talking of course about the fact that NBC has pulled 30 Rock for the next few weeks to burn off (I mean air) freshman comedy series Andy Barker P.I. I love Andy Richter and I love Tony Hale as much as the next Arrested Development fan, but this show can't hold a candle to my beloved 30 Rock . (Curious to see the entire six-episode run of Andy Barker ? It's already available online at NBC.com.) Over the course of the past season, 30 Rock has gone from being a trifling amusement (the beginning of the season) to a must-see comedy that I can't get off my mind grapes. I keep finding myself rewatching episodes on my TiVo (you can't imagine how many times I rewound the episode where Tracy flashes back to his drunk childhood on Nickelodeon show Ray Ray's Mystery Garage ) and breathlessly awaiting its release on DVD. Considering that this series began its life hovering on the brink of cancellation, that's pretty damn f

Chris Lowell Cast in "Grey's" Spinoff: Could Piz Be Leaving "Veronica Mars"?

Color this Veronica Mars fan extremely worried. I'm not talking about the relative success of timeslot replacement Pussycat Dolls Present The Search for the Next Doll (though it's, er, sobering to say the least), but rather the news that Veronica's (potential) love interest Piz might be moving on. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Chris Lowell has signed on for a pilot. And not just any pilot, but the much buzzed about Grey's Anatomy spin-off starring Kate Walsh, and Taye Diggs. Grey's creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes is keeping any details about Lowell's character firmly under wraps. It's assumed that Lowell's participation is in second position to his regular gig on Veronica Mars , but Lowell's agents must have been given the go-ahead for Lowell to go out for pilots this season. While it's not a definitive nail in the coffin for Veronica Mars , it's more than a little worrisome. CW still has not renewed Veronica for a fourth season an

The Flame Goes Up in, Well, Flames as Locke Enters 77 on "Lost"

Thank Eko! Now that was a great Lost episode. Last night's episode of Lost ("Enter 77"), written by executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, ratcheted up the tension without sacrificing the character interplay that make this series great. As opposed to last week's filler storyline involving Hurley discovering an old VW van and taking it on a joyride, last night's episode not only advanced the plot but it also gave us some downtime back at the beach, with an impromptu ping pong match between Sawyer and Hurley that didn't feel like it was tacked on at all. LOVED the scenes back on the beach, even if Paolo and Nikki still managed to position themselves front and center once again. What was up with Paolo's shiftiness when Sawyer asked who the hell Nikki was? (Hmmm.) And Paolo had his most interesting storyline to boot as he argued with Sawyer over his choice of bathroom reading material. (Yawn.) But I loved the fact that Hurley conned Mr. Con Man
