XOXO, CW: "Gossip Girl" and Five Other Series Renewed

Fans of freshman drama Gossip Girl can rest a little easier: the series will be returning for a second season of Manhattan-based intrigue and innuendo next season. (Maybe the mysterious Gossip Girl herself had some dirt on Dawn Ostroff?)

Gossip Girl was one of six series that received early renewal orders today from netlet The CW, according to a press release issued by the network.

Other CW series getting the thumbs up for the 2008-09 season include America's Next Top Model, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Supernatural, and Everybody Hates Chris.

All six series will return for the fall season, while the lack of a mention for freshman comedy Aliens in America does not bode well for that series. Also missing from the renewal list: Reaper.

Stay tuned.

While I'm glad to see Gossip Girl is returning, I'm even more excited that there will be another season of the Amazing Supernatural.
That show gets better each week (with the exception of one or two rotten episodes) and I'm waiting with baited breath for this seasons last episodes to return.

Very happy about Gossip Girl though why is the CW still renewing One Tree Hill after all of these years? Do they really not have anything else worth putting on the air? And yet they canceled Veronica Mars?

Unbelievable. Reaper misses out (maybe?) but ANTM comes back ... again! My lack of faith in networks' taste is renewed ... even if Reaper isn't.
Annie,

I couldn't agree with you more. One Tree Hill should have died many seasons ago and yet it still lives on, unlike the brilliant Veronica Mars. Very sad. But, on a brighter note, I am extremely happy to see that they're bringing back my favorite new guilty pleasure, Gossip Girl. It may not be Veronica Mars but at least Kristen Bell narrates!

They keep bringing back One Tree Hill for one reason, it gets good ratings (at least by CW standards) hence the renewal.
