Neptune (Not) Rising: "Veronica Mars" Feature Film Update

Looks like that Veronica Mars feature film is probably not happening...

I've been on tenterhooks for the last few months about Rob Thomas' plans for a feature film version of his short-lived (and much missed) UPN/CW series Veronica Mars.

On the one hand, I'd be the first in line to go back to Neptune and catch up with super-sleuth Veronica, watch her drop some witty bon mots, and solve some crimes, but I wondered whether there really was a massive public interest in, you know, paying to go see Veronica Mars on the big screen.

After all, the sensational Kristen Bell-led series was canceled due to low ratings and, as much I adore Veronica Mars, it did work best as a complex, ongoing serialized drama series.

It turns out that Warner Bros and executive producer Joel Silver feel more or the same way, according to series star Kristen Bell, who spilled the dish to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello at the recent Saturn Awards.

"I don't think it will ever happen, and here's why: [Series creator] Rob Thomas and I had a powwow, and we were both 100 percent on board," said Bell. "We took our proposal to Warner Bros. and Joel Silver told us that there is no enthusiasm [there] to make a Veronica Mars movie, and that is unfortunately a roadblock we cannot compete with."

"Maybe if we bombard them with letters?" suggests Bell. "Maybe [then] they will change their tune."

What say you? Should a letter campaign be started to show Warner Bros. that there is support and appetite for a Veronica Mars feature film? Or is it time to bid farewell to Neptune forever? Discuss.

Nah. I agree that it worked best as a complex, serialized drama. Plus, it was years ago. As much as I enjoyed it, sometimes it's best to let them go.

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do I ever get my hopes up? I was really hoping this was gonna happen. Now it looks like it won't. I was surprised they were doing a movie but why get our hopes up if it was never going to make it to the movie theater?

I'm okay with it not continuing.

Ooooh I'm so conflicted! I LOVE LOVE LOVED Veronica Mars (and Logan!). But... maybe it's best like this, a short fling. Maybe we shouldn't get together again, maybe that would just ruin a beautiful thing.

Not to say that I wouldn't write a letter if I thought it would help.

As I said, conflicted. I would love another season, maybe a few years ahead as was said, but... Aargh, ok, gimme more Veronica. In any shape, size or fashion.

i think they should start a small series to end it because the last ep was a good one just not a ending so simple and staright forward and there was too many questions left unaweresd and like someone said on another website the new things could have keeped you goin for another 6-7 epiosodes short and sweet : MAKE A SEASON TO FINSHED IT AND DO IT QUICK IT IS EASIER,FASTER,CHEAPER THAN A MOVIE ............ plesase i know to know the end and hope she ends up with piz because i think that logan was too much different than her and that they can't be 100% them seleves with each other where as veronica and piz just seem more happy and easier.
iknow logan and veronica have been though a lot but piz and veronica make a nicer couple and he is cute and sweet.

Katie Lee Packs Her Knives: Breaking News from Bravo's "Top Chef"

The android has left the building. Or the test kitchen, anyway. Top Chef 's robotic host Katie Lee Joel, the veritable "Uptown Girl" herself (pictured at left), will NOT be sticking around for a second course of Bravo's hit culinary competition. According to a well-placed insider, Joel will "not be returning" to the show. No reason for her departure was cited. Unfortunately, the perfect replacement for Joel, Top Chef judge and professional chef Tom Colicchio, will not be taking over as the reality series' host (damn!). Instead, the show's producers are currently scouring to find a replacement for Joel. Top Chef 's second season was announced by Bravo last month, but no return date has been set for the series' ten-episode sophomore season. Stay tuned as this story develops. UPDATE (6/27): Bravo has now confirmed the above story .

BuzzFeed: Meet The TV Successor To "Serial"

HBO's stranger-than-fiction true crime documentary The Jinx   — about real estate heir Robert Durst — brings the chills and thrills missing since Serial   wrapped up its first season. Serial   obsessives: HBO's latest documentary series is exactly what you've been waiting for.   The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst , like Sarah Koenig's beloved podcast, sifts through old documents, finds new leads from fresh interviews, and seeks to determine just what happened on a fateful day in which the most foul murder was committed. And, also like  Serial  before it,  The Jinx may also hold no ultimate answer to innocence or guilt. But that seems almost beside the point; such investigations often remain murky and unclear, and guilt is not so easy a thing to be judged. Instead, this upcoming six-part tantalizing murder mystery, from director Andrew Jarecki ( Capturing the Friedmans ), is a gripping true crime story that unfolds with all of the speed of a page-turner; it

BuzzFeed: "The Good Wife Is The Best Show On Television Right Now"

The CBS legal drama, now in its sixth season, continually shakes up its narrative foundations and proves itself fearless in the process. Spoilers ahead, if you’re not up to date on the show. At BuzzFeed, you can read my latest feature, " The Good Wife Is The Best Show On Television Right Now," in which I praise CBS' The Good Wife and, well, hail it as the best show currently on television. I won’t qualify that statement in the least — I’m not talking about the best show currently airing on broadcast television or outside of cable or on premium or however you want to sandbox this remarkable show. No, the legal drama is the best thing currently airing on any channel on television. That The Good Wife is this perfect in its sixth season is reason to truly celebrate. Few shows embrace complexity and risk-taking in t
