Talk Back: ABC's "The Deep End"

The ratings are in and ABC's new legal drama The Deep End tanked in the ratings.

But, given the lackluster results, I am curious to know which of you out there watched the first episode of The Deep End. Just what did you thought of the series? (You can read my review of the original pilot episode, written last summer, here.)

Did you find it engaging? Self-indulgent? Ridiculous? Did the presence of Matt Long, Mehcad Brooks, or Tina Majorino make up for one-dimensional characters and an effort to capitalize on the soapiness of Grey's?

And is there any way you would ever tune in again?

Talk back here.

I was dubious about 'The Deep End' because it looked like the lovechild of 'Grey's Anatomy' and 'Law & Order,' and if you're expecting more than that, you'll be disappointed. That being said, the phenomenal cast more than made up for the lack of plot for me. I loved seeing great actors from some of my favorite canceled shows like 'Veronica Mars' and 'Jack and Bobby.' Matt Long is likable and adorable as the "Boy Scout" idealist, and Tina Majorino is almost as funny as she was on the late great 'Veronica Mars.' While I don't think the writing or storyline is anything special, I hope this show sticks around just to watch this cast every week.

Found it much too familiar for it to be engaging. Knew exactly what the next scenes were going to be, saw right through the set-ups and rolled my eyes at the pay-offs.

But am willing to give it another try before the final verdict.

Didn't watch it. Won't watch it. There are too many good quality shows to keep up with. I won't waste my time on drivel.

I was hoping that the strong cast would somehow make up for the cheesy script but, sadly, the characters were so generic that even if Meryl Streep had been playing one of the parts I still would have found her to be annoying.

I tuned in for two reasons. First, because it was on Wednesday at 10 in Canada where there is nothing else I watch; and second, because of Matt Long and Tina Majorino.

However, I don't think I'll waste any additional time on it. It was one giant cliche. Any show that is marketed as being like Grey's Anatomy is an automatic turnoff anyways so I should have known better. It's really too bad for Matt and Tina because they deserve better!

Firstly, I didn't see anything wrong with the show. In my opinion every show on t.v. is a cliche! Its all been done before, so who cares. It's interesting and fun to watch. If I remember correctly, Grey's Anatomy didn't keep its original ratings either. It kinda got BORING! I say we give it a chance. I don't know about you but there is nothing that comes on Wednesday nights at that time! I will keep watching.

The Deep End was the only television show that was not a re run.. the world was tuned into the Olympics. Give the show a second chance! It will do well with out something else going on in the world!

I was only able to watch it about three times, and I fell in Love with it. It reminds me of Alley McBaile
